Abstract

OLEAS, Julio. Economic Crisis in a Small Open Economy: Ecuador, 1900-1999. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.2, e951.  Epub May 01, 2019. ISSN 2007-3496.  https://doi.org/10.18232/alhe.951.

Analysis of seven Ecuadorean economic crisis, from 1900 to 1999. We assume three terms, belonging to three phases of 20th Century capitalism: The Gold Standard and Great Britain hegemony, Bretton Woods and US hegemony, and globalization during the latest decades of the 20th Century. In each term we identify the crisis causes and the way they were solved (continuist or rupture). This research could be a beginning of a more deep and accurate research.

Keywords : capitalism; dependency; crisis; gold standard; Bretton Woods; globalization.
