Abstract

QUEROL, Vicent A.. Cyberspace and leisure in the generations who got late. Convergencia [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.63, pp.153-176. ISSN 2448-5799.

This article seeks to understand the practices and social uses of leisure for people over 44 years of age under forms supported by ICT, on the basis of fieldwork and 11 qualitative semi-structured open interviews covering a broad professional spectrum. Understanding generation as production of a set of generative schemes from which one perceives the world and acts on it, also with different social positions that will determine these leisure practices from the ways of introduction to ICT at the sphere of work. We found emotion as a central node of enjoyable activities is linked to relational rather than proper leisure activities; the more delayed their socialization in cyberspace, the more diversity in their adaptations; and their uses break a passive prejudice on them and demand concrete functions on software and technology.

Keywords : cyberspace; ICT; leisure; elderly; social uses.
