Abstract

SOLANA, Mariela. Pornography and subversion: an approach from Judith Butler's gender theory. Convergencia [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.62, pp.159-179. ISSN 2448-5799.

The goal of this paper is to examine how Judith Butler's notion of subversion can be applied to a polemical case in gender theory: the appearance of alternative pornography. Firstly, we will reconstruct the main elements of her theory of subversion as it is presented in Gender Trouble. Secondly, we will put into use her theoretical tools to analyze the mentioned case. What we will try to prove in relation to alternative pornography is that this practice was resignified through the appropriation of its methods by those who were traditionally excluded by it.

Keywords : Judith Butler; subversion; gender; pornography; sexuality.
