Abstract

This study was carried out to demonstrate the practical and conceptual utility of the simultaneous use of sustainable livelihoods approach, participatory rural research and social programs analysis. The study also offers a powerful tool with great possibilities to be adapted for planning and projects based on the territory development; it also offers new perspectives for analysis in favor of sustainable rural development. Furthermore,in this paper it is demonstrated that programs that transfer productive assets generate a diversity of direct and indirect social, economic and environmental effects on the sustainability of the livelihoods of the rural population involved and also on local development.
