Abstract
MASANET RIPOLL, Erika and BAENINGER, Rosana. Imágenes recíprocas y estereotipos entre la población brasileña y autóctona en el contexto multicultural español. Convergencia [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.53, pp.151-175. ISSN 2448-5799.
The aim of this article is to analyze the issues related to identity processes and the reciprocal social representations of Brazilian and Spanish people in the Spanish immigration context, in order to obtain an approach to intercultural relations established between both groups. Qualitative data have been used which were obtained from in-depth and biographical interviews. These data have been supplemented with quantitative data from Spanish public opinion surveys. The research results show a positive attitude toward Brazilian people among the Spanish population, which would facilitate their social integration in the host context. Also, there are ambivalent discourses in the social representation of the Brazilian group. Specifically, there is a gender inequity in the social image of the Brazilian group involving situations and discriminatory attitudes towards Brazilian women.
