Abstract

MARTNER PEYRELONGUE, Carlos Daniel. Puertos, espacio y globalización: el desarrollo de hubs en México. Convergencia [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.52, pp.319-360. ISSN 2448-5799.

Hub ports emerge as the new development paradigm of international maritime transportation and trade in the globalization process. Virtually all the Latin American countries announce mega-projects to develop hub ports in their coastlines, creating great expectations about regional development, but having a weak theoretical and empirical support. In that sense, this work seeks to contribute to the characterization of the hub ports model in countries in the periphery of the capitalist world economy, with a particular reference to the Mexican case. The aim is to add elements of analysis as to roughly identify the possibilities to develop hub ports on the Mexican seaboard, under the perspective of the regional studies and the transport geography.

Keywords : hub ports; networks; transport; globalization; territory.
