Abstract

BENAVENTE MORALES, Carolina. "Divina": consagración cultural y usos de lo sagrado en la actriz mexicana María Félix (1914-2002). Convergencia [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.52, pp.261-288. ISSN 2448-5799.

This study revolves around Pierre Bourdieu's notion of cultural consecration, with a focus on Mexican actress María Félix. She is appraised both as a diva consecrated by the dominant middle classes in the context of Mexican cinema's "golden era" and as a woman who achieves her own consecration by behaving like a vedette. By linking the person and the character to concrete social sectors and dynamics, multiple and divergent scripts on the Twentieth Century Mexican history are revealed, and the actress' performance is uncovered in relation to these.

Keywords : María Félix; cultural consecration; Mexican cinema; performance; body.
