Abstract

SANTACRUZ DE LEON, Eugenio Eliseo  and  PEREZ VILLALBA, Elba. Atraso económico, migración y remesas: el caso del Soconusco, Chiapas, México. Convergencia [online]. 2009, vol.16, n.50, pp.57-77. ISSN 2448-5799.

The present text discusses the links between agricultural activities, migration and remittances for the case of the Soconusco region, Chiapas. These links are approached from two perspectives: the first one places agricultural production as a point of attraction for migrants; and the second approach visualizes it as the ejector of the local rural population. We conclude that the impasse affecting productive farming contributes to the increment of migration and its expression in the amount of remittances.

Keywords : export agriculture; migration; remittances.
