As a result of the weakness of traditional account ability models, different countries have been development new schemas to ensure the efficient and direct intervention of society on government control: Comités de Vigilancia in Bolivia; Veedurias Ciudadanas in Colombia or Contraloría Social in Mexico, etcetera. The success of these programs usually refers to the number of social control committees set up. Nonetheless, the aim of this paper is to show, from a qualitative approach, the main characteristics of social control model implemented in the State of Mexico. The focal point is to understand who the actors are, how and where take place, as well as which tools are used on social control.
