Abstract

This case study for teaching aims to illustrate the emergence, development, and challenges that a Mexican migrant club faces in a transnational dynamics. Based on documentary research and fieldwork this document is organized twofold. First a brief analytical framework that highlights transnationalism and migrant organizations is exposed. Second the process of transforming the “Social Club Los Reyes” from a sports club into transnational player is presented. This section describes some key aspects of the relationships between this actor and the governments of Mexico and the United States. The pedagogical objective of this case study is to provide undergraduate and graduate students, from different disciplines in Social Sciences, a framework for discussion government-society relations from a transnational point of view.
