Abstract

RODRIGUEZ-OREGGIA, Eduardo  and  SILVA IBARGUREN, Lautaro. Construction of a Labor Condition Index at the State Level for Mexico. Gest. polít. pública [online]. 2009, vol.18, n.1, pp.149-178. ISSN 1405-1079.

This paper proposes the construction of a labor condition index at the state level in Mexico. Using data from the National Employment Survey 2004, we aggregate an index with three dimensions: equality conditions (by gender and by income), jobs covered by social security and returns to schooling. Results show that states with better labor conditions are in general in the North: Coahuila, BCS, Aguascalientes, Nuevo León, BC and Chihuahua. States with lower labor condition index are: Morelos, Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, Guerrero and Chiapas.

Keywords : labor conditions; equality; social security; education; regional.
