Abstract

AZUA GARCIA, Armando Francisco. The Times of Yraeta: The Pacific Ocean and the World in the Second Half of the Eighteenth Century. Hist. graf [online]. 2020, n.54, pp.131-151.  Epub May 30, 2020. ISSN 1405-0927.  https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi54.273.

Francisco Ignacio de Yraeta, an important trader from New Spain, developed a substantial trading network that spanned America, Asia and Europe. Even though he is not the only trader that attained the establishment of such a network, we ought to acknowledge the fact that the preservation of a considerable portion of his paperwork kept in the archives highlights him as a central actor for the understanding of some relevant traits from the epoch in question.

Notwithstanding the fact that his letters were not intended to portray the geopolitical world, the latter had an impact over his work. This is why we frequently find references to these matters, and it is due to this information that we can know the general feeling of his influential association concerning the worldwide events from that historical moment.

Keywords : Francisco Ignacio de Yraeta; World Trade; Eighteenth Century; International Politics.
