Based on the close relationship between the ritual commemorations and museums as two forms of configuration and transmission of social memory, this paper discusses a museographical proposal developed for the Bicentennial of Independence in Mexico (2010): the exhibition México 200 años. La patria en construcción, at the Galería de Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. The aim of this paper is to trace some of the politics of memory and public uses of history that marked the bicentennial commemoration, as well as the ways in which the nation was represented through museography in this particular experience.
