Abstract

FREIJOMIL, Andrés G.. The practice of reading in the work of Michel de Certeau: Archive, document and reading. Hist. graf [online]. 2012, n.38, pp.209-231. ISSN 1405-0927.

This essay, which is part of a broader investigation, demonstrates that the practice of reading involves time and textual materiality, thus, reading is an interaction between the material textual form and the gestural corporality of the reader. This is proven through a document written by Michel de Certeau that was published in three different ways: as an essay in a journal, as a transcription of a lecture and as a chapter of a book. The final title of the essay, which is also a chapter in his penultimate published work, emphasises that the readers take from the text what they need at the moment that they read.

Keywords : Michel de Certeau; to read; archive; history; everyday.
