Abstract

DOMINGUEZ-CALLEROS, Pedro A. et al. Silvicultural characterization of Pseudotsuga menziesii in the "La Michilía" biosphere reserve. Madera bosques [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.2, pp.23-31. ISSN 2448-7597.

The aim of this study was to document the dasometric characteristics as well as the ecological conditions that develop in the two populations of Pseudotsuga menziesii, located in the area of influence of the "La Michilía" Biosphere Reserve and the Protection Area and Natural Resources of the Feeder Basin National Irrigation District 043. The results obtained in this study show that at site 1 only 3% of the population corresponds to Pseudotsuga menziesii, whereas at site 2, 35% corresponds to this species. As in the upper layer, the site 2 had the highest regeneration presence of 896 n/ha. The uniformity index values (Wi) indicate a random distribution at site 1 and site 2 pooled together. Regarding the degree of species mixing (Mi), the results indicate that both populations have a high diversity and species mix. As for the environmental conditions, according to the data analyzed from the nearest weather station it was determined that this area corresponds to a climate type Cw (temperate sub-humid) suitable for the development of this species. Regarding the study of cones and seeds, it is important to note the low level of production recorded with 291,9 seeds/kg for site 1 and for site 2, 315,3; additionally, the collected seeds presented a low viability level.

Keywords : dasometric characteristics; spatial structure and species mix; cones and seeds; Pseudotsuga menziesii.
