Ricardo Suárez Gamboa M.D. (1872-1915) was a Mexican surgeon in the late nineteenth century who studied medicine at the then National School of Medicine from the era of Porfirio Díaz; he studied in France alongside Pozzi and Routier. Upon his return, he published the book Surgical clinic monographs in 1899 where he suggests the use of a four-degree classification of cervical cancer, as well as being the first promoter in the world of the fight against this evil. He was a member of the National Academy of Medicine, published some articles that supported metal suture, asepsis, and approaches with radical lymphatic resection and emptying in cancer cases. He was among the first to use Walter Reed’s theories of control of yellow fever in the battle of El Ebano, where he died.
