Abstract

GUTIERREZ SAMPERIO, César. Palliative medicine. Cir. gen [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.4, pp.251-256. ISSN 1405-0099.

We review the background and concepts of palliative medicine, what patients should receive it, where it should be applied, who must administer it and for how long, as well as its ethical and legal bases. The most relevant law amendments from 2009 and 2012 are described. It is concluded that palliative medicine is not against scientific and technological advances, but strives for their proper use, with respect to the will and dignity of the patient.

Keywords : Palliative medicine; bioethics; law.
