Abstract

GARZON, Yaneth; GONZALEZ, Javier  and  ORIHUELA, Nuris. Basic and spatial statistical comparison between satellital and terrestrial gravimetric data in the Orinoco oil belt, Venezuela. Rev. mex. cienc. geol [online]. 2011, vol.28, n.3, pp.459-473. ISSN 2007-2902.

In this paper we present a comparative statistical analysis between Bouguer anomaly values calculated from land and satellite data acquisitions in the Faja Petrolífera del Orinoco by using basic statistical tools, linear models and geostatistical methods. Numerical and statistical similarities have been observed between the data sets. In general, the linear models show positive linear dependence, high correlation coefficient and similar increment of gravity with latitude. On the other hand, by proposing a 95% confidence interval around the values of unobserved locations estimated from land data, 90% of the satellite based observations satisfy the established uncertainty limits. These results, added to the numerical and spatial similarities seen before, let us to validate satellite data as equivalent to land data. In the Faja Petrolífera, the sources of error that produce Bouguer anomaly differences between land and satellite data are related to differences on elevation values greater than 20 meters, spatial distribution of data, and set of measure instruments used. Also it was demonstrated that homogeneous distribution of measurements along the selected area is important to obtain a substantial improvements in geological features observed in the Bouguer anomaly maps.
