Complexes of propranolol with carboxyalkylmethacrylates were prepared and characterized. Kinetics of drug release from tablets prepared with the complexes were studied in gastric and intestinal simulated fluids. Results were compared to those of tablets containing propranolol·HCl and a complex of drug and Eudragit^® L. The results indicate that drug release rate, in both media, is reduced as alkyl side chain and charge density increases. The prepared polymers are good candidates for extended drug release systems.
