Abstract

GARCIA MARTINEZ, Jorge Alberto. Determinación de aditivos oxigenados en gasolinas mexicanas por cromatografía de gases-espectrometría de masas. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2000, vol.44, n.3, pp.237-242. ISSN 0583-7693.

The addition of tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME) to mexican gasolines occasioned the coexistence of this ether with the methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and the need to develop analytical methods to quantify these oxygenated components in gasoline. A reliable and fast method to determine simultaneously MTBE and TAME in gasoline by gas chromatography-mass spectrometery is presented in this work. The method is free of interferences of alcohols which could be eventualy present in the sample. An internal standard and the area ratio of the characteristic ions of the ethers and the standard, measured in the mass fragmentograms extracted by deconvolution of the data stored in the computer, are used to carry out the determination. The quantitative results obtained from the analysis of unleaded mexican commercial gasolines and synthetic gasolines containing MTBE and TAME, without alcohols and with them, as well as the validation data are presented. Because the instrument is operated in scan mode it is possible to identify other oxygenated compounds in the gasolines as well.

Keywords : tert-butyl methyl ether; tert-amil methyl ether; oxygenated additives; mass spectrometry.
