Abstract

CRUZ-AHUMADA, Samuel Jonathan. Currents in preoperative assessment and anesthetic risk: a practical approach on non cardiac surgery. Rev. mex. anestesiol. [online]. 2022, vol.45, n.4, pp.253-256.  Epub Feb 03, 2023. ISSN 0484-7903.  https://doi.org/10.35366/106344.

New tools have emerged as predictive models of cardiovascular and pulmonary risk, in preoperative assessment and anesthetic risk. Since the study published by Goldman in 1977, several scales have already been validated, predictors of cardiovascular complications such as the cardiac risk reviewed by Lee and the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) calculators. The assessment of functional capacity is mandatory, extension studies such as electrocardiogram, chest radiography, and in some cases, the proper use of an echocardiogram, spirometry, among others. Postoperative pulmonary complications can be predicted based on the ARISCAT model. In an era in which subspecialist consultations and overstudies only add cost without substantially improving results, anesthesiologists must take a clear responsibility for the preoperative assessment of surgical patients.
