Abstract

The study deals with the synthesis of new trisubstituted imidazolidines 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 5a, 5b derived from N,N'-bis(pyridin-2-yl)ethylenediamine (1a) and/or N,N'-bis(pyrimidin-2-yl)ethylenediamine (1b) and five aldehydes of low molecular weight. In addition to above mentioned imidazolidines, the condensation of 1a and 1b with formaldehyde afforded 1,3,6-oxadiazepane derivatives 3a, 6a; while the condensation with acetaldehyde gave the corresponding N,N'-bis(heteroaryl)-2-(2"-hydroxypropil)imidazolidine 4a, 7a. The structure of all compounds was determined by NMR, IR, high resolution mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The structure of 4a was corroborated by X-ray diffraction analysis.
