Abstract

ORDONEZ, Sergio. Capitalismo del conocimiento: ¿México en la integración?. Prob. Des [online]. 2006, vol.37, n.146, pp.51-77. ISSN 0301-7036.

Based on a theoretical characterization of capitalism that sees knowledge as a new phase in world economic development and one of its most distinctive elements, this paper studies its spatial deployment in terms of a new international division of labor based on knowledge. This constitutes the framework for a first approximation of Mexico's integration into the process in comparative international terms. It is concluded that the country is Jagging behind its Latin American peers (Brazil and Argentina), as well as the emerging countries of Asia and Eastern Europe, to a worrying extent, a situation which, if it is to be surmounted, will require active policies supported by further adaptations to the State's administrative capacity, translated into a development strategy centering on the promotion of endogenous knowledge and learning processes.

Keywords : capitalism; knowledge; development phase; international division of labor; Mexico's integration.
