Abstract
NAVARRETE, Alberto de Jesús; OLIVA RIVERA, José Juan; VALENCIA BELTRAN, Víctor and QUINTERO LOPEZ, Nancy. Distribución de los sedimentos en la Bahía de Chetumal, Quintana Roo, México. Hidrobiológica [online]. 2000, vol.10, n.1, pp.61-67. ISSN 0188-8897.
To know the medium grain size and organic matter content of the sediments from Chetumal Bay, samples were collected with a PVC tube 5 cm internal diameter in 45 sites in July 21 and 28, 1998. At each place, depth, pH, Eh and temperature in sediments were registered. Depth oscillated between 1 to 5 m. Sediments were calcareous coarse and medium sand, white or lightly gray, the medium grain size varied between 0.45 to 1.40 f scale, temperature varied between 24.4 y 30.6 °C. Organic matter content had 20.3% as maximum with higher values in more depth areas. pH registered was lightly alkaline and electric potential varied between +171 to +232 mV typical of oxygenated sediments.
