Abstract

In this text we seek to establish the encounters and disagreements that arise between representative democracy and participatory democracy, from the point of view of parties and political representation. The historical changes in the parties and in the same representation have modified the structures and functions of the institutions of representative democracy, for which they have substantially changed the parameters of both democratic legitimacy and the margins of citizen participation and the different social actors, which try to have an increasing incidence in the spaces of political representation.
