Abstract

The paper characterizes the current crisis of the world economy. First, its immediate development is described, emphasizing the cyclical recession in United States, the bursting of the housing bubble, and the global financial crisis, that caused a deep recession. Then, the 2000-2001 crisis exit is analyzed as an immediate antecedent of the current crisis. The analysis of the structural tendencies of profitability and accumulation after the overaccumulation crisis of the 1970s allows to conclude that this is a crisis of the neoliberal restructuring, characterized by a return of the financial hegemony.
