The article reviews the concepts, speaches and practices related to social participation from international organizations, governments, and the organised society in Latin America and Mexico. It looks at relevant participation experiences developed in other countries. It also contributes with a synthesis of the latest developments in the Canadian case in order to through light to the alternatives to be considered while designing national strategies.
