Abstract

PEREZ NASSER, Elia. Las mujeres árabes en las mil y una noches: feminismo y modernidad en Oriente. Polít. cult. [online]. 2007, n.28, pp.133-155. ISSN 0188-7742.

In this essay, the understanding of modern Moslem thinking and the way it's culture developes by means of the Occidental influence is analyzed, particularly in what refers to the Feminist Movement of Near East. Kipping in mind that the Arab world is going through a global crisis including structural basic problems reflected in a cultural conflict, and that the condition and position of women in Islamic world is one of the most controversial and studied themes of the last fifteen years, it will be revealed that in the present time the vision of women is not as romantic as in The Arabian nights.

Keywords : modernity; Near East; Occident; islamic feminism; identity; culture.
