Abstract

DELGADO WISE, Raúl  and  MANAN GARCIA, Oscar. Migración México-Estados Unidos e integración económica. Polít. cult. [online]. 2005, n.23, pp.9-23. ISSN 0188-7742.

Under the current economic integration plans, the model for growth in Mexico has been subordinated to the industrial restructuring of the U.S. Although this is useful for the U.S. economy, it represents a short-term way out that it will be difficult to maintain into the longer term. At the same time, as the asymmetries between the two countries deepen, this form of integration has unleashed a perverse dialectic that curtails the country's development and leads to a migratory dynamic that in turn fosters a growing, and worrisome, trend toward depopulation.

Keywords : Mexico-U.S. migration; economic integration; maquiladoras; labor markets; transnationalism.
