Abstract

ORTIZ-HERNANDEZ, Luis. La opresión de minorías sexuales desde la inequidad de género. Polít. cult. [online]. 2004, n.22, pp.161-182. ISSN 0188-7742.

The prejudice and discrimination faced by bisexuals, lesbians, and homosexuals are frequently seen as the result of homophobia. This idea has, however, been criticized from different quarters, and it also hinders the understanding of certain differences within those segments of the population. Considering the conceptual limitations of the isolated use of the idea of homophobia, this essay proposes a conceptual framework for understanding the oppression of these population groups, based on the notion that the oppression they face can only be understood within the general framework of gender relations.

Keywords : bisexuals, lesbians, homosexual (BLH); homophobia; oppression; gender relations.
