Abstract

FAJARDO SANCHEZ, Luis Alfonso. The vampires of Birrinchao: A case study from a postcolonial perspective. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2019, vol.27, n.54, 00010. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl2754-010-2019.

Using the approaches of postcolonial studies and from a multicultural approach, this article presents the case vampires of Birrinchao. The analysis is based on a Western vision, but also from the perspective of the emberá, a Colombian indigenous people who applied their own ancestral procedures for the administration of justice. Among the main findings is the debate on the recognition of the diversity of legal sources in a multiethnic and multicultural State, such as the Colombian one, where the myth, magic and shamanism are considered by many of the indigenous, Afro-American, raizal and gypsy peoples as current and contemporary practices.

Keywords : postcolonial studies; decolonization; law shamanism; right to history; Colombia.
