Abstract

ZAPATA, Guillermo; FERNANDEZ LOPEZ, Sara  and  NEIRA GOMEZ, Isabel. Technological entrepreneurship in South America: An approach to its individual determinants. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2018, vol.26, n.52. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl2652-003-2018.

This paper analyses the individual determinants of technological entrepreneurship and whether they differ from those of the conventional entrepreneurship in South America. This paper contributes to the understanding of New Technology-Based Firms (NEBTS) to foster innovation-based economies in the region. Using logit models and the data from Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2011, we find that employment status, income, perceived skills and meeting an entrepreneur are driving forces for entrepreneurship. However the gender, age and studies exclusively impact on technological entrepreneurship.

Keywords : Entrepreneurship; entrepreneurs; new technological based firm; statistical data; technological innovation; South America.
