Abstract
ZITO, Anthony R. and ASPINWALL, Mark. Green Regions? Comparing Civil Society Activism in NAFTA and the European Union. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2016, vol.24, n.47, pp.121-149. ISSN 0188-7653. https://doi.org/10.18504/pl2447-008-2016.
This paper compares the role of environmental civil society in two regional organizations, the European Union and NAFTA. It uses the Transnational Advocacy Network approach to assess how non-governmental organizations make use of opportunities to influence policy, and the effects of civil society engagement. Despite wide differences between the two organizations, there are important commonalities: both provide resources and important access points for NGOs, both have limits and frustrations, and both encourage coalition-building among NGOs.
Keywords : European Union; NAFTA; environmental policy; civil society; NGOs; transnational advocacy networks theory.
