VALDES UGALDE, Francisco. Governance and Institutions: Proposals for a Research Agenda. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2008, vol.16, n.31, pp.95-119. ISSN 0188-7653.

This article addresses the difference between the concepts of governability and governance in economics and political science. The main focus is to address basic principles of neoclassical theory in order to explore alternative research approaches for the analysis of governance in institutional building and agent relationships to rules. With this purpose, the article assesses the adequacy of explanations of citizens decision making in democracies with sharp inequalities and heterogeneous preferences.

Keywords : governance; governability; institutions; agency; social choice; democracy; citizenship; social inequality.
