Abstract

FUENTES GARCIA, Alberto. La discriminación y su relación con la diferencia de ingresos en el mercado laboral guatemalteco. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2006, vol.13, n.27, pp.141-167. ISSN 0188-7653.

This article deals with the income differential between four demographic groups in Guatemala: indigenous women, indigenous men, non-indigenous women and non-indigenous men. Specifically, the non-observable component of the income differential, is analyzed in accordance with the Oaxaca-Blinder model, component has been identified as discrimination. It is concluded, that the largest income difference is caused by discrimination against women in general, and specially, against non-indigenous women who, in spite of having similar levels of education and experience as those of both indigenous and non-indigenous males, receive lower average incomes.

Keywords : income; Guatemala; wages; labor market discrimination.
