Abstract

OVANDO VAZQUEZ, Pedro. Odd Machines. Performative and Mechanical Encounters in Contemporary Aesthetics. Alteridades [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.54, pp.79-92. ISSN 2448-850X.

This paper explores modern views on machines and the effects of alterity and oddness related to what is human, constructed from these ideas. It is suggested that the machine problematizes the relations and limits between human and inhuman, whose tension produces cultural symbols and forms of subjectivation embedded in the contemporary social order. From this argumentation, the imaginary and meanings of the machine in modern art will be addressed, in particular, the articulated criticism of the notion the machinic in the performative practices of contemporary aesthetics.

Keywords : oddness; modernity; machinic; conceptual tension; aesthetic practices.
