Abstract

CAPRON, Guénola  and  GONZALEZ ARELLANO, Salomón. Residential mobility of the elder people and the life trajectories of their family in the metropolitan area of Mexico City. Alteridades [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.39, pp. 67-78. ISSN 0188-7017.

The residential mobility of elder people in contexts such as Mexico has been poorly studied. We believe that, unlike other countries in North America and Europe, the changes of residence in the last stage of life, do not respond to the search of a better life after retirement, but are associated with a loss of individual autonomy, compensated by the family support. We analyze the relationships of dependency between elder people and their families, from an exploratory study of the residential mobility of elder people and the links between their life trajectories (family, residence and employment) and the ones of their families, in a large metropolis as the Metropolitan Area of Mexico.

Keywords : elder people; residential mobility; life trajectories; Metropolitan Area of Mexico.
