Abstract

MELVILLE, Georgia. Museography with a transnational community. Alteridades [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.37, pp.57-67. ISSN 2448-850X.

This article presents a museographic project created with a transnational community from the Mixtec region of Oaxaca. The aim of this work is to demonstrate how transnational communitarian museography is a clear step away from more traditional museum forms that are strongly linked to colonial and national contexts, as well as to hegemonic discourse. This text also explores the complexity of social practice and interest in the creation of new museum forms that increasingly involve a greater diversity of participants.

Keywords : museography; communitarian museums; subaltern; transnational community.
