Abstract

SILVESTRI, Graciela. Shadows over the past, shadows over the future: Contemporary Architecture versus Metropolitan Changes. Alteridades [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.36, pp.87-103. ISSN 2448-850X.

Every Architecture work has an implicit reflection about the ways in which we, as humans, inhabit the spaces. If we observe the architectural landscape of recent years, we see that housing problems are only address analogically, to multiply new images. Now days, it appears that architects prefer to become artist. They seem to have abdicated their search for balance between their traditional spheres of action: art, technique and society. The works produced by de so called star system have another complementary face, and it consist in a crass professionalism, a pragmatic urbanism, or the will to escape the frames of the discipline and affiliate to social work. In this article we try to summarize the history of architecture after the years of integral criticism of modernist trends.

Keywords : Architecture; art; metropolitan culture.
