Abstract

CASTRO LUCIC, Milka. La universalización de la condición indígena. Alteridades [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.35, pp.21-32. ISSN 2448-850X.

Universalization of the indigenous condition. This paper refers to what currently means to be indigenous. It explores the triggers -supported by important international legalframes- that made hundreds of indigenous peoples get out of their peripheral isolation, strengthening the generalization of the indigenous condition as well as the self-identification by means of comparing their poor living conditions beyond the dispersion caused by national and international diasporic phenomena towards cities or different countries. Finally, from the chilean case, this paper refers to the circumstances that strengthened the indigenous condition.

Keywords : universalization of the indigenous condition; diasporas; legal frames; collective rights; indigenous; Chile.
