Abstract

LAGUNAS ARIAS, David. The space of tourism. Alteridades [online]. 2006, vol.16, n.31, pp.119-129. ISSN 2448-850X.

Tourism disrupts the contemporary scenes and it turns them into imaginary scenes that reveal symbolic and political-economic strategies of construction of the local, regional and national identity. The tourist is approached as a re-settler in his ad hoc consumer’s role concerning products created according to his demand, but also as an active subject of his transcendence. A speech underlies this reconquest process in regards to the spaces and places, materialized by the excess of the images concerning genuineness and exotic stuff, but also hedonism, pleasure or freedom.

Keywords : tourism; space; imaginary; authenticity; standardization.
