Abstract

OSORIO R., Amantina. Violencias extremas y etnicidad: la ex Yugoslavia. Alteridades [online]. 2005, vol.15, n.30, pp.75-84. ISSN 2448-850X.

The term extreme violence is applied by researchers within most variable contexts, most of them characterized by violence, rage, hatred, massacres and cruelty. This work attempts to explain humanity’s denial towards these topics through the study of ethnical conflicts in ex-Yugoslavia during the 90’s. Thus, the aim of this work is to ponder upon the diverse cruelty and profanation crime expressions observed during the mentioned conflict, which harmed physical, psychic and moral integrity of these peoples in an individual and collective way. The anthropological analysis, beyond macabre statistics, allows reordering the concepts of cruelty and profanation within the frame of intentionality concerning social agents.

Keywords : extreme violence; ethnical conflict; cruelty; profanation crime; women; Yugoslavia.
