Abstract
RUIZ PORRAS, Antonio and HERNANDEZ REYES, Juan Pablo. The concentration in the banking markets and the technical efficiency of the commercial banks in Mexico. Acta univ [online]. 2020, vol.30, e2757. Epub Mar 26, 2021. ISSN 2007-9621. https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2020.2757.
In this study the concentration in the Mexican banking markets and the technical efficiency of the Mexican commercial banks are analyzed. Moreover, the concentration in the credit, deposit and other profitable-asset markets are studied with the Herfindahl-Hirschman (HHI) and the dominance (DI) indexes. Technical efficiency indicators are built using data envelopment analysis (DEA) models. The main findings show the existence of differentiated increases in competition, efficiency and banking assets. The increases depended on the asymmetries in the size of the banks and the markets analyzed. The panel used in this study includes monthly data from January 2001 to March 2018.
