Abstract

SOTO-BARAJAS, Milton et al. A new method for extracting Imazapyr from soil samples without using organic solvents. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.4, pp.323-332. ISSN 0188-4999.

A new method was developed for extracting Imazapyr from soil samples. Instead of using organic solvents as the extracting medium, the new method employs deionized water. Validation and extraction tests were carried out on five agricultural soils where the extracted solution was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography to identify and quantify the herbicide. Validation of the extracting procedure was conducted by computing four performance indexes: selectivity, recovery, reproducibility and robustness, according to the definitions of these parameters given by the Centro Nacional de Meteorología (Metrology National Center of Mexico). Since the proposed method has a recovery rate of herbicide above 85 %, it can be used as a routine procedure when studying fate and transport of Imazapyr in soil.

Keywords : Imazapyr; methods for extracting; validation of methods; quantification; HPLC.
