Abstract

VACA PAULIN, Rocío; LUGO DE LA FUENTE, Jorge  and  ESTELLER ALBERICH, María Vicenta. CARACTERIZACIÓN DE LA MATERIA ORGÁNICA SOLUBLE Y DE LOS ÁCIDOS HÚMICOS EN SUELO ACONDICIONADO CON LODO RESIDUAL FRESCO O COMPOSTADO. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.1, pp.27-37. ISSN 0188-4999.

The study of the potential use of biosolids, such as sewage sludge and compost, is a concern because of their effects on the soil organic matter and its quality. Sewage sludge (LRF) and composted sewage sludge (LRC) (sewage sludge was mixed with corn (Zea mays L.) stalks and composted at 55 °C for 35 days), were added to samples from agricultural soil under laboratory conditions, at rates of 0 and 200 Mg ha-1, to determine the changes in dissolved organic matter (MOS) and humic acids (AH) using visible spectrofotometry and infrared spectroscopy (IR). Mineralization and carbon kinetics were calculated through microbial respiration. The E4/E6 ratio and the relative optical densities of AH of soil-sewage sludge (S-LRF) and soil-compost (S-LRC) mixtures showed a higher degree of condensation of the aromatic constituents in S-LRC, whereas relatively large proportions of aliphatic structures were observed in S-LRF. The IR spectra exhibited an increase content of polysaccharides, peptides, lignins and hydroxyl groups in the MOS and aliphatics structures in the MOS and AH in S-LRF, whereas the addition of LRC increased the contents of aliphatics alcohols in the AH. By the other hand, the mineralization and kinetics carbon constants of S-LRC were the lower.

Keywords : infrared spectroscopy; biosolids; dissolved organic matter; humic acids.
