In this research we investigate on some of the contemporary social representations that the inhabitants of the town Santa Cruz Pueblo Nuevo in the municipality Tenango del Valle, State of Mexico have been built around the disaster in 1940 in his town, which is still present in the oral tradition of the population. The methodological perspective of social representation allowed us to understand the knowledge of the inhabitants of the place. We identified natural and religious awards in the understanding of the disaster as well as a prospective look at their physical and social conditions to events similar to the one that occurred.
