Abstract
PALACIO PRIETO, José Luis. Geography studies in Latin American Universities; development, present and future perspectives. Invest. Geog [online]. 2011, n.74, pp.107-124. ISSN 2448-7279.
Despite contextual limitations, geography programs in Latin American universities have significantly expanded in recent years. During the last decade, 56 new programs (undergraduate, master's and PhD) were launched, although educative reforms in countries along the region tend to neglect geography in basic educational levels. Reasons behind this relatively important booming of geography programs may relate to the social perception that geography is present in everyday issues, the development and dissemination of technological tools for the handling of geographical data and the demand for professional geographers in the labor market.
