Abstract
MENDEZ GONZALEZ, Jorge et al. Teleconnection of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) to the precipitation and temperature in Mexico. Invest. Geog [online]. 2010, n.73, pp.57-70. ISSN 2448-7279.
This paper highlights the relationship between precipitation (PP), maximum (TM) and minimum temperature (tm) variability in Mexico and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) climate teleconnections during the period 1950-2007. Non parametric correlations in 550 climatologic stations throughout Mexico were tested for statistical significance at the 90% level or greater for each month. The results suggest the following patterns of PDO-PP, TM and tm anomalies: warm phases (positive) of the PDO coincide with anomalously wet periods during boreal winter (nov-apr), as well as warm conditions during boreal summer (may-oct) extending into the northeastern of Mexico. The results confirm PDO teleconnections and the amplification of climate signals in Mexico at local and regional scales.
