HERNANDEZ SANTANA, José Ramón y ORTIZ PEREZ, Mario Arturo. Morphostructural analysis of the hydrographic basins of Sabana and Papagayo rivers (middle-lower third), Guerrero State, Mexico. Invest. Geog [online]. 2005, n.56, pp.7-25. ISSN 2448-7279.
This study presents the morphostructural patterns of the lower parts of the Papagayo and Sabana river basins, formed during the neotectonic (N-Q) stage. The structural framework consists of positive and negative blocks, which inherited their internal structure from different lithologic complexes and from older phases of tectonic deformation. The morphostructures can be distinguished, among others: massive, on granite basement; blocks on folds and monoclinals, on terrigenous and calcareous rocks; chaotic, on gravitational deposits; unconsolidated, on young deposits; and others types. Neotectonics has acted differentially, determining diverse faulting styles. The designs of granitic and metamorphic foliations are superimposed on those styles, as a tectonically passive expression of lithology. Finally, the study found 32 types of morphostructures, associated in several geotectonic communities of blocks, among others: irregular system of blocks; system of stepped triangular horst, deformed by transcurrent faults; isometric system of stepped blocks; alternate asymmetral system of horst and graben; system of stepped blocks on circular and annular structures; and others.
