Abstract
CONTRERAS DELGADO, Camilo. Production restructuring and pendular movement of labor in Coahuila's Coal Basin, Mexico. Invest. Geog [online]. 2002, n.47, pp.113-130. ISSN 2448-7279.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the day-to-day spatial pattern make-up within an economic restructuring framework. Coahuila's Coal Basin was an economic region based on mining from the late 19thcentury until nearly the late 1980 s, During this long period, the mining-works market was characterized by the workers' pendular mobility (between places of residence and labor). Today, with a privatized steel industry (and also the remaining mining industry), and the appearance of the maquila (contract-manufacturing) industry in the region, the labor market has diversified in economic activity and share therein. However, although this mobility is still at the core of labor market, conditions have changed, since workers increasingly resent this daily mobility process.
